The accounts.x.ai sign-up
The page is titled Create Your Grok Account. The email route starts with a single address field. xAI's API help talks about resetting your password, so email accounts are password accounts, and xAI says it emails you whenever someone logs in.
One xAI account covers both Grok and the xAI API. The same email used through different sign-in methods makes separate accounts, and xAI can't merge their chats or subscriptions afterwards.
Is a disposable address accepted?
xAI hasn't published a policy on disposable email that we could find. Unofficial posts claim it rejects some domains, which we couldn't confirm. Our domains are on the public disposable list, so a refusal is possible.
If grok.com turns the address down, sign up with an alias that forwards to your real inbox instead.
When the email doesn't show
- Leave this page open for a minute. New mail appears on its own.
- Go back to the sign-up and ask for the email again.
- If nothing comes twice, xAI may not be sending to this domain. Support is at support@x.ai.
Keeping a Grok account
Unlike some AI tools, xAI lets you change the sign-in email at accounts.x.ai. If you lose the original inbox, its FAQ says to sign in another way, with a new email, Google or X, and link that. Do this while the temp inbox still works and you have nothing to lose.
If you delete the account, logging back in within 30 days undoes it. After that it is gone.
Questions
Do I need an X account to use Grok?
No. accounts.x.ai has its own email sign-up. Sign in with X instead and your X account is what Grok sees.
What's the minimum age?
13. xAI says 13 to 17 year olds need a parent or guardian's permission, and the parent has to agree to the terms.
Does the same account work for Cursor?
Cursor's help says its sign-in is moving to accounts.x.ai and accounts.spacex.ai. Cursor has its own rules on temporary email, covered on our Cursor page.
