Temp Mail for ChatGPT
OpenAI confirms a new ChatGPT account with a link by email, then sends a 6-digit code when you log in from a new device or place. Both land in the inbox below. If you only want to ask a question or two, ChatGPT also lets you try it without an account.

For throwaway signups only. Don't use a temp address for banking, medical or anything sensitive.
Setting up your inbox
What OpenAI asks for
- An email address and a password. Google, Apple and Microsoft logins are offered too. OpenAI says phone-only sign-up has mostly rolled out in countries including the US, UK, France, Germany and India.
- A "Verify email address" link, sent straight after sign-up. OpenAI says it approves no new account until the email is confirmed.
- Later, a 6-digit code by email when you sign in on a new device, from an unusual location, or change sensitive details. It comes from noreply@tm.openai.com or otp@tm1.openai.com and expires quickly.
Pick the email option and paste the temp address there. Continue with Google or Apple hands OpenAI the address on that account instead, so the throwaway does nothing.
Will a throwaway address get through?
We found no public statement from OpenAI that it refuses disposable domains. That doesn't mean every address works: many sites screen throwaway domains without saying so, and the domains this inbox uses are on the public disposable-domain list that many sign-up forms check.
If the form rejects the address, stop there rather than cycling through new ones. Use an alias from your own email provider, or one of the alias services in our alias guide.
The link or code hasn't arrived
- Wait a minute with this tab open. The inbox checks for new mail every few seconds.
- Ask OpenAI for a new email and use only the newest one. Older codes stop working.
- Got the welcome email but no verify link? OpenAI's help says logging in at chatgpt.com should prompt the activation step.
- Still nothing after a second try: OpenAI may not be delivering to this domain. Switch to an address you keep.
Moving the account to your real email later
OpenAI lets you change the address in Settings, then Account, on the web, but only while you can still open the current inbox. Its help page says no exceptions are made, even through support. So if you decide to keep the account, change the email while this inbox still works.
There are limits too: two changes a day and twenty over the life of the account, and an old address isn't freed up for reuse. Anything paid, such as Plus, should never sit on a temporary address.
Questions
Can I use ChatGPT without signing up at all?
Yes. The login page offers a "Try it first" option that needs no account, so no email is involved at all.
Does a phone number replace the email check?
No. OpenAI's help says text messages are not an alternative to email-based login or verification. Phone-only sign-up is a separate route that skips email altogether.
I signed up with the temp address and then with Google. Are they one account?
No. OpenAI treats different sign-in methods as separate accounts and doesn't merge them, so chats on one won't appear on the other.
